Light the World: Serving with the Salvation Army

Members of the Hurst Texas Stake were invited to serve alongside community members on December 2–3, 2022 at the Salvation Army Angel Tree gift drop location at North East Mall. Volunteers collected and tagged gift donations to be distributed across North Texas to thousands of children, seniors, and special needs adults.

Time went quickly during the 3-hour shift as volunteers were met with a steady flow of cars dropping off gifts over the two-day event. By the end of the second day, there were two semi trucks packed full of gifts to later be dispersed to those in need. During this Christmas season, as many look for ways to shine their light, this service opportunity allowed volunteers to give back in a way that did not cost money and helped to spread joy.

Jackie Atkinson, a member of the Watauga Ward (congregation) said:

“It truly was a wonderful afternoon serving alongside others in our community and I really enjoyed participating in a different stage of the Angel Tree program. It was a very heartwarming afternoon.”
