“For Such a Time as This:” Hurst Stake Young Women Camp

Every summer, young women from the Hurst Texas Stake are given the opportunity to attend Girl’s Camp—a place where, through shared experiences, campers can draw closer to their Heavenly Father and strengthen themselves and others living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

On June 15-18, 2022, girls from the Hurst Texas Stake attended Camp Grady Spruce which is located on 380 acres on the banks of beautiful Possum Kingdom Lake in Graford, Texas.

During the three-day camp, the young women had the opportunity to serve others, build friendships, appreciate and feel reverence for God’s creations and have fun!

The girls and their adult leaders enjoyed the camp amenities of air-conditioned cabins, bunk beds, bathrooms with private showers and a kitchenette. Activities includes archery, canoeing, riflery, swimming, hiking, barge rides, gaga pits, tether-ball, soccer, and various crafts with additional classes.

In addition to exploring the many activities at camp, the young women also attended religious devotionals and firesides, centered around this year’s camp theme: “For Such a Time as This” (Esther 4:14).

Each girl had her picture taken which was then printed and strung up in one of the main rooms as a reminder of how important each young woman truly is. Images courtesy of Amelia Duke.

The girls studied from the Book of Esther in the Bible, and learned about how Esther was brave in time of danger. Esther’s faith in the Lord and her courage to talk to the king saved her people. Esther’s experience can be easily applied to teen girls growing up in a society that challenges religious morals and Christian standards.
