Free Self-Reliance Classes
Open to the community, these Self-Reliance classes offer free, practical courses with temporal & spiritual benefits. Through the power of Jesus Christ, and your own efforts, you can work to become more self-reliant.
All classes are participant-led. Each lasts from 6pm to 8pm, and runs for 10-12 weeks. Classes are held at the Hurst Stake Center (4401 NE Loop 820, North Richland Hills, TX 76180). Childcare can be arranged if needed.
Emotional Resilience
For those seeking to overcome the challenges in life by learning to overcome anger, stress and anxiety, by understanding sadness and depression, and building healthy thinking patterns.
Personal Finances
For those seeking to take control of their finances by eliminating debt, protect against financial hardship, and invest in the future. Group members will create a financial plan and follow a budget.
Life Skills
For older Youth and Young Adults seeking general skills for everyday life by learning about finance, educational opportunities, and employment skills to find a job.
Find A Better Job
For those seeking to find a job or find a better job. Group members will learn to network, present themselves professionally and prepare for interviews.
Starting and Growing My Business
For those seeking to start their own business or to grow an existing business. Group members will learn business skills such as; identifying customer needs, finding customers, and book keeping skills.
Education for Better Work
For those seeking better work and need more education to get a promotion or new job. Group members will research and create career and learning plans that will help them meet their goals.
English Connect
For those seeking to learn English as a second language. Learning to speak English fluently can help open job opportunities and feel more confident in everyday interactions. Classes are available in Spanish, French and Tongan.
Family History and Indexing
For those seeking to discover, gather, and connect with family members past, present and future. Group members will learn how to research and use family history software to find new ancestors.
Students may also choose to learn to index (digitally record) analog records so others may find their ancestors.
Strengthening Marriage
For those seeking to build skills and habits to make their marriages more meaningful, joyful, and resilient.
Other Courses
BYU Pathway Connect
For those seeking to start or continue a college degree but feel like a traditional university or college is not the right option for them. Group members will gain confidence and learn study skills that will prepare them to enroll in a degree program.
