In commemoration of Juneteenth, stake and community members are invited to join in a landscaping cleanup project at the secluded Mosier Valley Cemetery on the southern edge of Euless. This cemetery dates back to the 1865, as part of a colony of formerly enslaved and newly emancipated Black people — the first of its kind in Tarrant County. The burial lot is now all that remains of that community, and contained over 200 grave markers.
What to Prepare For: The project will consist largely of trimming down grass and weeds, as well as cleaning around headstones. Please bring trash bags and weed-whackers if you have them. All volunteers should also come equipped with bug spray and thick, protective clothing due to tall grass and the possible prevalence of biting insects.
Directions: The cemetery is at the end of a short dirt road at the south end of House Anderson Road in Euless, to the left.
This will be an act of pure service, in honor of the local Black community. We hope to see you there!
