In times of natural disasters, when internet and telephone lines are down, communication is crucial to saving lives and coordinating response. Because radio technology still works when other communication methods fail, the Church relies heavily on local amateur (or “ham”) radio operators to help manage rescue efforts.
Anyone 12 or older can join this team by becoming a licensed amateur radio operator, regardless of prior experience. This consists of attending a beginners’ course, held once weekly for nine weeks, with a test at the end.
The next licensing course will begin at 8am on Saturday, Sept. 14 over Zoom, under the instruction of Pat Autrey, the Hurst Stake Emergency Coordinator. You will need a course manual (ARRL Ham Radio License Manual 5th Edition – Complete Study Guide with Question Pool to Pass the Technician Class Amateur Radio Exam) to participate.
To join the course, simply register with the link below, and purchase the course manual at https://a.co/d/aOt6qOe
